Custom Garage Organizer Made From Scrap Wood

Walking into the garage one day I decided to Pinterize the organization of the brooms, shovels, rakes, mops etc. in the garage. So I made the above piece based on an idea from Pinterest. It's greate for garage organization and an easy DIY project.

So first, I grabbed a broom and shovel and layed them out on the floor next to scrap wood. This helped me get an idea of how high to make it.
Then I layed out the longest of the scrap boards to see how wide to make it.
This helped me determine how long to cut the inside pieces.
My scrap pieces were hard wood flooring and easily split when I put the first screw in. So I had to use my Ryobi drill to pre-drill a hole.
Then I was able to easily drill in a screw with out splitting the wood.

I started by making the frame of the top, then I worked on the bottom supports.

Clamps helped to hold the pieces level as I screwed them together.

I temporarily clamped scraps under the pieces that I just screwed in.
Because I was working by myself I was trying to make good use of the clamps.
I used these pieces to lay cross supports and then screwed the remaining wood in.

With the frame assembled I was able to mark the inside pieces for cutting.

I nailed them in with 1 1/2" finish nails.

Then with some more cutting and nailing I put in cross section pieces.

Even though it looks like the bottom, this is actually the top. So I flipped it over and added inside pieces to the bottom.

As you can see in the pictures, I used three different types of scrap wood.

Now brooms, shovels and rakes are all oganized!

Not bad for a couple hours of work!
